State Testing

PARENTS: All public school districts are required to administer the statewide assessment to all students in the grades 3-8th and 11th grade. These will be the only grades that will be doing the state assessments. Because the State does not administer the assessment directly to students, it is the local school district’s responsibility to ensure students take the assessment.

At Henry School, Middle School and High School students will start state testing in their classrooms on Monday March 31st. 5th grade will start on April 3rd, and 3rd and 4th grade will start on April 8th. The school’s testing schedule is below.

Testing Schedule:

Elementary: 4/8-4/10, 4/15-4/17, 4/22-4/24, & 4/28-5-1 However 5th will start on 4/3

6th-8th & 11th graders: Monday March 31st- ELA

Wednesday April 2nd- ELA Performance

Monday April 7th- Math

Wednesday April 9th- Math Performance

Monday April 14th- Science for only 8th grade and 11th grade

The staff here at Henry are very supportive of our student’s academic success and needs and want to express the importance of student participation during these assessments. One of the important features of the assessments is that they can help determine whether students are on track for college and career readiness (even students in elementary school, because so much of a child’s education builds upon previously learned concepts, making it important to engage in this annual check-up). Much like an annual medical check-up, the assessments allow parents and educators to identify any potential issues that may need addressing. Another benefit for high school students is that they can use their qualifying state assessment scores to gain acceptance into South Dakota’s public postsecondary institutions (dual credit classes.)

The Department of Education provides resources at their page if you would like to know more information about the assessments https://doe.sd.gov/Assessment/.

Testing results will be sent in the mail to parents/ guardians with report cards at the end of May. For our middle school and high school students that are testing they will need headphones. They can bring their own hard-wired headphones if they don’t want to use the schools. But it cannot be Bluetooth or wireless. The school will provide these if a student doesn’t bring their own. If you have any questions please feel free to contact your student's teacher or email myself at brigett.hauck@k12.sd.us.
